Hello! In a nutshell, I am a software developer, musician, and armchair academic. I enjoy being creative and have found that the world of software is the best way for me to keep my mind active while getting the creative juices flowing. It is probably not surprising to you then that I spend a good deal of time making computer games for myself and others, as well as learning and/or creating the associated technologies.
I founded a company called Fictorial in 2008 to try and make a living by doing exactly this kind of thing -- making fun stuff.
I am a self-taught guitarist and bassist, but I really could use some lessons one of these days. Here follows a small sampler of music I wrote in a few weekends somewhere in 2009. I tend to write hundreds of these little ideas (and never make full songs it seems!) [ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ]
An example of the type of problem that interests me would be my masters thesis project (2008) which tried (and mostly succeeded) in bringing a physical user interface to computer games by way of computer vision; well, a single type of game: billiards. The project let people play a virtual billiards computer game but with a real cue stick and cue ball instead of a mouse and keyboard. A video camera watches you hit the ball and figures out in 3-D the angles and velocity, then updates a physics-based game model to match (the virtual balls go the right way at the right speeds, clicking and clacking off of each other). I published a paper and spoke at a conference in Germany in 2008 (ICME08). At least 6 or 7 people got really excited about the project for about 20 minutes (rock!).
Contact me if you have any fun project ideas. I am always looking for
something fun to work on.
